they lick the surface of her body and is passed on from one individual to another. This substance inhibits the worker bees from building brood cells for new queens. It also inhibits the development of eggs by laying workers. Whether this is a direct effect of the ‘queen substance’ on metabolism or whether the substance serves merely as a token stimulus to the central nervous system, causing the release of the appropriate hormones, has not yet been established (Butler, 1954, 1956; Butler & Simpson, 1958; de Groot & Voogd, 1954).

Effect of different feeding rate on reproductive performance of Swordtail (Xiphophorus helleri)
Feeding fish is one of the most important factors in aquatic nutrition. Regarding the importance of nutrition in aquaculture, many studies have been done; However, few studies have been conducted on the effect of different feeding rates on reproductive activity of fish. This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of feeding rates on reproductive performance of the swordtail (Xiphophor...
متن کاملEffect of different protein levels on reproductive performance of snakehead murrel Channa striatus (Bloch 1793)
In this study the effect of different protein levels on reproductive performance of Channa striatus was conducted. Snakehead juveniles (65.5±0.2 g) were randomly distributed into nine homogenous groups of 75 fish each. Three isocaloric experimental diets differing in protein levels were prepared. The experiment lasted for 8 months and gonadosomatic index, absolute fecundity, egg diameter, numbe...
متن کاملEffect of Fish Meal Replacement with Aqupro on Nutrition and Blood Indices in Fingerling Rainbow trout
The current study was carries out to determine the effect of fish meal replacement with Aqupro on growth, blood indices and liver enzymes activities in fingerling rainbow trout. Number of 540 fish (18 g) were randomly distributed in 18 fiberglass tanks (250 l capacity) and five isoproteic diets were formulated. The fish meal inclusion reduced from 50 percent in diet one to 10 percent in diet fi...
متن کاملReproductive Acclimation to Increased Water Temperature in a Tropical Reef Fish
Understanding the capacity of organisms to cope with projected global warming through acclimation and adaptation is critical to predicting their likely future persistence. While recent research has shown that developmental acclimation of metabolic attributes to ocean warming is possible, our understanding of the plasticity of key fitness-associated traits, such as reproductive performance, is l...
متن کاملImportance of protecting the natural reproduction of kutum (Rutilus kutum Kamenskii, 1901) in exploiting the ecological carring capacity of the ecosystem
251 specimens of kutum fish caught by bony fish persine on the southern shores of the Caspian Sea (Mazandaran) during the years 2017-2019 were studied to study the growth trend of this species. In this study, maximum estimated length (L∞) and annual growth coefficient (K) of kutum fish were estimated 71.79 cm and 0.13, respectively. The results of natural reproduction of this species in Kheirud...
متن کاملThe importance of using microbial feed additives in breeding ornamental fish
In line with the growth of the aquaculture industry, the reproduction and cultivation of ornamental fish has developed significantly due to its high economic importance. One of the most important challenges in the aquaculture industry is the improvement of formulated diets to improve the growth efficiency, nutrition and immunity of fish. In recent years, many efforts have been made in connectio...
